Bac Kan is a mountainous province, sharing its border with Cao Bang Province to the north, Tuyen Quang Province to the west, Lang Son Province to the south-east, and Thai Nguyen Province to the south. The topography is mainly midland, mountainous. The province has a complex network of rivers and springs. Bac Kan has natural of mineral and forest, especially primitive forests with rich of flora and faune. Bac Kan is famous for Ba Be Lake Spring Festival with many rituals and activities as boat racing, wrestling, dancing, nem con (con throwing). The festival attracts a lot of people arround the region.  Bac Kan Town is 166km from Hanoi. It is located on the Hanoi – Cao Bang inter-provincial No. 3.

Ba Be Lakes
Lie in the middle of a vast limestone mountain range of Ba Be District, Bac Kan Province, 240km from the north-west of Hanoi, Ba Be lake is dubbed a “precious jade of Vietnam and one of 500 lakes recognised as worthy of attention. Ba Be itself is actually three smaller lakes joined together – Pe Lam, Pe Lu and Pe Leng.
Ba Be Lakes, located 145m above sea level, are among the largest natural lakes in Vietnam with a total surface area of 500ha. The surface of the lake was tranquil – a beauty spot if ever there was one, in this land of so much beauty. Visitors will have an unforgettable stay in the mountains by the lakes, enjoying sightseeing boat trips, hikes, and water sports. From Ba Be, tourists can visit other neighboring scenic attractions such as Dau Dang Fall, Puong Cave, and Tien Pond. Passing by Puong Cave (30m high, 300m long), cruise past the villages of Tau, Cam and Hua Tang, and navigate the way through the river’s forks and brooks, tourists will reach Dau Dang Falls.


Ba Be National Park
The Ba Be National PR is 40 km far from Bac Kan city and about 250 km north of Hanoi Capital. The 10,000 ha garden is home to 1,280 species of plants, including various precious and rare ones that are included in the Red Book of Vietnam. Particularly, 25 species are included in the World Conservation Union (IUCN) Red List of threatened species. The garden is also the center for 182 kinds of orchids, originating in Vietnam and the Northeast Asia. The fauna is very diversified in quantity and categories with over 600 species, including 66 rare and precious ones like great hornbill and pheasant. The Ba Be National Garden is not only the leading bio-diversification center but also a famous beauty spot in Vietnam.


Dau Dang Waterfall

Dau Dang Waterfall is the end point of Lay River in Ba Be district. It was said that once upon a time Tai Ngao, which means “giant”, perforated a mountain by his hands, creating Puong Grotto. Stones of the mountain were thrown into lower section of the river, forming Dau Dang Waterfall. The waterfall is about 2 kilometers long and has slope of about 500 meters. The gigantic and beautiful waterfall harmonizing with landscapes of primitive forests will impress tourists when coming to Bac Kan.


Pac Ngoi village
The village belongs to Nam Mau commune. It is ranked by the Ministry of Culture and Information amongst 21 attractive beauty spots in Ba Be National Garden.
Visiting Pac Ngoi, tourists will be enjoyed comfortable time here, live in houses on stilts and take part in as well as enjoy art performance with native people and eat local specialties. When the night comes, tourists will have chance to sing with girls of the Tay ethnic minority around flickering flame. Possessing cultural characteristics and beautiful nature, Pac Ngoi has become an ecological village impressing all visitors.


Puong Grotto
Puong Grotto locates on Nang River, which is 5 km far from the center of Ba Be Lake. The grotto has a length of 300 meters and average height of about 25-30 meters. Inside the grotto is a large number of big stalactite pillars whose colors change season by season and are subject to changes in the weather. About 100 meters far from the Grotto, tourists can see a stone image of President Ho Chi Minh staring at the river. Deeper inside the grotto has terraced fields formed from stone. In the old days, the Grotto was revolutionary base of the Mac. Today, the grotto is worthy of a profound and attractive ecological destination.
